A cerebral card classic for three. Judge your hand precisely, win the bidding and take exactly as many tricks as you declared.
The goal is to score the most points on the pool through accurate bids and tricks. Just 4 steps.
A 32-card deck is dealt 10 to each player, with two cards set aside as the widow. Players size up the strength of their hands.
In turn, players name a contract — from two spades up to a misère. Whoever bids highest plays it and takes the widow.
The declarer fulfills the contract while the other two defend against them. The highest card of the suit, or a trump, takes the trick.
Make your contract and you score the pool; fall short and you take penalties. The game runs until the whole pool is closed.
Preferans is the pinnacle of the Russian card-playing tradition: here you don't just take tricks, you forecast their exact number and bid cleverly for the contract. Calculating odds, remembering which cards have gone and reading your opponents' defense make every deal a puzzle.
