Everyone is dealt six cards; the bottom card of the deck is flipped over to set the trump suit.
A player plays a card against their neighbor. You must beat it with a higher card of the same suit or any trump.
Beat it and the cards go to the discard pile. Can't beat it — you pick up everything on the table.
After each round hands are topped up to six. Whoever is left holding cards last is the "fool."
Durak is an iconic Russian card game played with a 36-card deck. A trump card is revealed, and players take turns attacking their neighbor with cards, while the defender must beat them with a higher card of the same suit or a trump. Fail to defend and you pick up all the cards. Players draw from the deck back up to six in hand until it runs out. The last player still holding cards loses — that player is the "fool."
