Duel

One on one, same five places

A duel is a two-player game over the same five locations. One player picks the mode and creates a room, getting a four-character code; the other joins with the code or a link. Fifteen modes are available, including regional ones, and the opponent gets exactly the same locations and the same restrictions. Both then play at their own pace, watch each other's score in the header, and the final screen shows who won.

A duel differs from a normal game in that you can see your opponent. Their score and completed rounds sit in the header and update as you play, and the moment they answer, a fifteen-second countdown starts for you.

How a game goes

1. Pick a mode and create a room

Fifteen five-round modes are available, including the regional ones. Your opponent gets exactly the same locations and the same restrictions.

2. Send the code or the link

The four-character code is typed by hand; the link opens the room directly. The room lives for a day, so playing at the same time is optional.

3. Play with an eye on the header

It shows the opponent's score and how many rounds they have finished. If they answer and you have not, a fifteen-second countdown begins.

4. Go through the result

The final screen shows each round for both players and a map of the pins: yours in gold, theirs in blue.

How to play this mode

Because both players get identical locations, the winner is the more accurate one, not the faster one. Watching the opponent's score matters near the end: if they are already well ahead, the last round is worth a gamble on a specific city rather than a safe pin in the middle of a country.

Tactics

Because both players get identical locations, the winner is the accurate one, not the fast one. Speed matters in exactly one way: answering first starts the opponent's fifteen-second clock and takes their looking-around time away.

Watching their score matters most in the final round. If they are well ahead, a safe pin in the middle of a country saves nothing — a gamble on a specific city is the better play.

How scoring works

A direct hit is worth 5000 points per round, and the score falls off exponentially with distance. A five-round game is worth up to 25,000. Distances are measured on the server against its own copy of the locations, so a result cannot be forged from the browser.

Frequently asked

Do we have to play at the same time?

No. A room lives for a day, and your opponent can take their rounds whenever they like.

Do hints work in a duel?

No, hints are disabled there — otherwise the player willing to spend more would gain an edge.

Can I choose the duel mode?

Yes, when creating the room. Fifteen five-round modes are available, including the regional ones. The daily challenge and the long modes are not available in duels.

What is the fifteen-second timer?

It starts when your opponent has answered and you have not. At zero the round submits whatever pin is on the map. If your panorama has only just loaded, five seconds are guaranteed regardless.

Can my opponent see my pins during the game?

No. The real locations and the other player's guesses are revealed only once both have finished.

Can a third player join?

No, a room is strictly for two.
