Paris on Street View

How to recognise the city from a panorama

Haussmann blocks are unmistakable: uniform height, cream stone and continuous wrought-iron balconies on the fifth floor. Street names come on blue enamel plates with a green border.

What the streets look like

Buildings share one height, facades are cream limestone, and a continuous wrought-iron balcony runs along the fifth floor. Pavements are wide, lined with plane trees and their mottled bark.

How to tell it from lookalikes

Density and stone colour separate it from Lyon and Marseille, where the stone is warmer and more ochre. From Brussels it differs by uniformity — there the facades are mismatched.

Useful details

Street names sit on blue enamel plates with a green border and the arrondissement number above. Pavement bollards and the metro's M entrance are Parisian markers too.

Geogessr drops you somewhere random in the world — sometimes in Paris. Work out where you are and drop a pin on the map.
