Seoul on Street View

How to recognise the city from a panorama

Korean hangul is unmistakable — circles and straight angles instead of characters. Seoul adds mountains inside the city limits and dense stacks of signage covering whole facades.

What the streets look like

Signage covers facades entirely, stacked in several tiers and almost all in hangul. Streets are wide, with many twenty- to thirty-storey residential blocks of identical design.

How to tell it from lookalikes

Hangul instead of kanji and kana, tower-block housing and wider carriageways separate it from Tokyo. From Taipei it differs by the absence of scooters.

Useful details

Mountains are visible from inside the city — Seoul is ringed by them. Buses are colour-coded by route type: blue for trunk, green for local.

Geogessr drops you somewhere random in the world — sometimes in Seoul. Work out where you are and drop a pin on the map.
