Barcelona on Street View

How to recognise the city from a panorama

The Eixample district was designed with chamfered building corners, so junctions look like octagonal squares from street level. No other city in the world is laid out this way.

What the streets look like

Block corners are chamfered, so junctions read as octagonal squares. Facades carry wrought-iron balconies and ground floors hold shops under awnings.

How to tell it from lookalikes

The chamfered corners of the Eixample separate it from Madrid — no other city in the world is laid out this way. From Valencia it differs by scale and hills.

Useful details

Signage often appears in Catalan: carrer rather than calle. Pavements are laid with a flower-patterned tile found only here.

Geogessr drops you somewhere random in the world — sometimes in Barcelona. Work out where you are and drop a pin on the map.
