London on Street View

How to recognise the city from a panorama

Left-hand traffic narrows the world to a dozen countries at once. London adds double yellow kerb lines, black cabs and white rectangular street signs mounted straight onto building walls.

What the streets look like

Traffic keeps left, double yellow lines run along the kerb, and junctions carry round red-and-white prohibition signs. Brick dominates over render, and windows are more often sash than casement.

How to tell it from lookalikes

Number plates separate it from Dublin: British ones are yellow at the rear and white at the front, Irish ones white with a blue EU strip. From Edinburgh it differs by flat terrain and no sandstone.

Useful details

Street plates are fixed straight to building walls and carry the district with a postcode such as SW1 or EC2 — which pins the location precisely.

Geogessr drops you somewhere random in the world — sometimes in London. Work out where you are and drop a pin on the map.
