Dice poker (also known as Yahtzee, or simply "dice") is a game played with five dice. On each turn you get up to three rolls: you keep the dice you want, re-roll the rest, and at the end you record the result in one of the rows of the score sheet, just like a combination in poker. Below are all the combinations, how many points each is worth, and a handy table to keep on hand.

Frequently asked questions

Two sixes — how many points is that?
In the "Sixes" row of the upper section, two sixes give 12 points (6 + 6). Only the dice of that value count; the other dice in that row don't.
What is a full house in dice?
A full house is three of a kind plus a pair: three matching dice and two more matching dice (for example, three sixes and two threes). It gives a fixed 25 points regardless of the values.
What's the difference between a small straight and a large one?
A small straight is four dice in a row (for example, 2-3-4-5) and gives 30 points. A large straight is all five in a row (1-2-3-4-5 or 2-3-4-5-6) and gives 40 points.
Yahtzee (five of a kind) — how many points?
Five matching dice is a Yahtzee, the highest combination, worth 50 points. It's a fixed row; like all the others, it's filled in once per game.
How do you play dice with five dice?
You roll all five, and over three rolls you try to make a combination (keeping the dice you want between rolls), then record the result in a suitable row of the score sheet. The game continues until all rows are filled in.
Three of a kind and four of a kind — how many do they give?
Both three of a kind (three matching dice) and four of a kind (four matching dice) score the sum of all five dice on the table — that is, the higher the dice, the more points.
What's best to go for at the start of a game?
It's usually worth closing out the upper section with three of a kind of the right values for the +35 bonus, and keeping the risky rows (straights, Yahtzee) for a lucky roll. A hopeless turn is best "burned" in the cheapest row.
