Dice poker (also known as Yahtzee, or simply "dice") is a game played with five dice. On each turn you get up to three rolls: you keep the dice you want, re-roll the rest, and at the end you record the result in one of the rows of the score sheet, just like a combination in poker. Below are all the combinations, how many points each is worth, and a handy table to keep on hand.
How to play dice with 5 dice
- Three rolls. The first roll uses all five dice. Then, twice, you can keep the ones you like and re-roll the rest.
- Record the result. After the rolls, pick a combination and record the points in its row. Each row is filled in exactly once per game.
- No combination — write a zero. If nothing came together, you'll have to "burn" one of the rows by writing a 0 in it.
- The higher score wins. When all rows are filled in, the player with the most total points wins.

Combinations with examples
What each combination looks like on the dice.
Three of a kind — three matching dice (three fives). Points: sum of all five dice = 21.
Four of a kind — four matching dice. Points: sum of all five = 18.
Full house — three of a kind plus a pair (three sixes and two threes). A fixed 25 points.
Small straight — four dice in a row (2-3-4-5). A fixed 30 points.
Large straight — all five in a row (1-2-3-4-5). A fixed 40 points.
Yahtzee (five of a kind) — five matching dice. The maximum — 50 points.
The upper section and the +35 bonus
The upper section is six rows by value: ones, twos, threes, fours, fives, sixes. In each you record the sum of the dice of the matching value.
- How to count. Two sixes in the "Sixes" row give 12 points, four sixes — 24, three fives — 15. Only the dice of that value count.
- The +35 bonus. If the sum of the entire upper section reaches 63 points or more, a +35 bonus is awarded. As a rough guide — about three dice of each value.
